What is the Fresh Test?
The Fresh Test is a 50-gram glucose drink made from simple, natural ingredients. Unlike the traditional glucose solution, which contains artificial flavors, colors, and additives, the Fresh Test is clean and free from any unnecessary chemicals. It’s a great option for those who prefer a more natural approach to their prenatal care.
Why Screen for GDM?
Screening for gestational diabetes is important because GDM can increase the risk of complications for both you and your baby if left untreated. By identifying GDM early, we can work together to manage it through diet, lifestyle changes, and, if necessary, medical care. The goal is to ensure that you and your baby stay healthy throughout your pregnancy.
How to Take the Fresh Test
- Preparation:
- Schedule the test between 24 and 28 weeks of pregnancy.
- On the day of the test, eat a balanced meal with protein and healthy fats at least 2-3 hours before taking the Fresh Test. Avoid sugary foods and beverages right before the test to ensure accurate results.
- Drink Fresh Test 30 Minutes Before Your Appointment:
- Mix the Fresh Test powder with 10 ounces of water. Stir until fully dissolved.
- Drink the solution within 5 minutes. It’s important to finish it all within this time frame for accurate results.
- After finishing the drink, relax and avoid any strenuous activities while you wait for your blood draw.
- Blood Draw:
- After exactly 1 hour from when you finished the Fresh Test, a blood sample will be taken to measure your blood glucose levels.
- It’s essential to time this accurately, so consider setting a timer to remind you.
- Post-Test:
- You can resume your normal activities after the blood draw.
- We will discuss the results with you and any next steps if needed.
What Happens Next?
If your blood glucose levels are within the normal range, no further testing is needed, and you can continue enjoying your pregnancy with peace of mind. If your levels are higher than normal, we may recommend a follow-up 3-hour test with the 100-gram Fresh Test to confirm the diagnosis of gestational diabetes or glucometer testing for a longer period of time in your pregnancy.
